Overview

My Role

As the team lead for this project, I spearheaded our efforts to explore a wide range of healthcare domains. We conducted an in-depth analysis and uncovered critical issues within the pregnancy care system. This led us to develop and present the innovative concept of 'Matern Ease,' aimed at addressing these flaws. I was responsible for guiding the team through every phase of the project, ensuring we successfully brought our vision to life.

"Existing social apps for mindfulness are fragmented, leading to confusion and inconsistency. We need a comprehensive app that provides accurate information, engaging activities, and personalized guidance to cultivate mindfulness and foster meaningful connections."

Riya Desai

Goals and Needs:

  • Riya is looking for a supportive community where she can discuss her anxiety struggles openly without fear of judgment.

  • She wants to connect with others who share similar experiences and learn coping strategies that have worked for them.

  • Riya also seeks to find local support groups or events where she can meet people face-to-face in a safe environment.

  • Finding time outside of work to engage in social activities or attend support group meetings.

  • Overcoming the initial hesitation of opening up about her mental health struggles due to cultural stigmas attached to mental illness in her community.

  • Navigating the app to find relevant and active groups or forums that resonate with her specific needs.

Pain Point:

Rahul Patel
  • Age: 28

  • Occupation: Teacher

  • Location:Ahmedabad, India

  • Balancing his teaching job and family responsibilities leaves him with limited time to seek out traditional mental health support options.

  • Overcoming the stigma associated with mental health in his community, especially among his older family members who may not understand or support his seeking help.

  • Finding an app that respects his privacy concerns while providing a secure environment to share personal experiences and emotions.

Pain Point:

Background

Rahul has been teaching junior school for the past 7 years. He lives with his extended family in a joint household in Ahmedabad. Rahul has been experiencing symptoms of depression for the past year, which he attributes to work stress and family responsibilities. He enjoys playing cricket, watching movies, and reading non-fiction books in his spare time.

Goals and Needs:

  • Rahul wants a platform where he can anonymously discuss his feelings of depression and get advice from peers who may have faced similar challenges.

  • He seeks emotional support and validation from others who understand the pressures of being a teacher and managing family expectations.

  • Rahul also wants access to mental health resources like articles, podcasts, or therapy options that are specific to his cultural context.

  • Team Collaboration: Working as a group for eight weeks taught us the value of effective communication and collaboration. Each member's unique perspective and skills contributed to a well-rounded final product.

  • Adaptability: I learned to be adaptable, incorporating new ideas and solutions as we encountered challenges. This flexibility was key to overcoming obstacles and improving the app.

  • Technical Skills: Developing the app enhanced my technical skills, particularly in mobile app development and user interface design. I gained practical experience in creating a functional and user-friendly application.

  • Project Management: Managing the project over eight weeks highlighted the importance of planning, time management, and delegation. I learned to set realistic goals and meet deadlines effectively.

Takeaway

In light of the persistent stigma surrounding mental health and the prevailing lack of awareness regarding mental well-being and self-care, coupled with the challenging task of locating the right counselor or therapist, individuals require a compassionate and supportive environment.

This environment should provide a non-judgmental space for users to access a wide range of self-care resources and find tailored solutions to maintain their motivation and enhance their self-care practices.
